Revisiting an ancient inorganic aggregation‐induced emission system: An enlightenment to clusteroluminescence

Organic and inorganic clusteroluminescence have attracted great attention while the underlying mechanisms is still not well understood. Here, we employed a series of ancient complexes platinocyanides with aggregation-induced emission property to elucidate mechanism including how does chromophore form solid structures influence luminescence behaviors. The results indicate that isolated platinocyanide cannot work as emit visible light, their clusterization at aggregate state can trigger d-orbitals coupling platinum atoms facilitate electron exchange delocalization new light. Furthermore, counter ions H2O ligands help rigidify three-dimensional network structure suppress excited nonradiative decay, resulting in high quantum yield up 96%. This fundamentally helps understanding both organic phenomenon.
